The Taylor family has called on the Lagos State Government to comply with a court ruling affirming their ownership of a disputed land located on Plots 412/420 Lagos-Abeokuta Expressway, Abule Egba.

Speaking on behalf of the family on Monday, their legal counsel, Olalekan Ojo, urged the state government to uphold the consent judgment delivered by Justice O.A. Ogala in December 2019, which, according to him, legally recognised the family’s ownership of the property.

Ojo stated that the family had taken full possession of the land in accordance with the court’s ruling, stressing that any obstruction by the state government would amount to a violation of judicial authority.

“This land, a legacy of over a century, was unlawfully occupied by the Lagos State Government without proper compensation, as required by law,” Ojo said. “For years, the government has failed to comply with the binding consent judgment, instead resorting to bureaucratic delays, obstruction, and unlawful revocation to frustrate justice.”

He further noted that the enforcement of the judgment was carried out by the Sheriffs of the court, reaffirming the Taylor family’s rightful ownership.

“This enforcement underscores the strength and independence of the judiciary in standing firm against executive interference,” he added.

Despite asserting their legal rights, the Taylor family expressed willingness to engage in an amicable resolution with the state government, provided that certain conditions were met.

“The government must fully enforce the judgment, cease all obstruction, refrain from further encroachment, and demonstrate respect for judicial authority by upholding property rights and the principles of justice,” Ojo emphasised.

He warned that disregarding the court ruling would set a dangerous precedent that threatens private property rights in Nigeria.

“A government that disregards court verdicts undermines justice and accountability, putting the rights of all citizens at risk,” he stated.
