I am delighted to welcome you all to the trading floor of the Nigerian Exchange for this year’s celebration of International Women’s Day.
We all agree that women play very important roles in our lives . They are the vessels for new life, mothers, nurturers , and life partners. Women also excel in whatever roles they play outside the home, be it in education,engineering , finance or politics .
But despite their aptitude and hardwork ,not enough recognition or appreciation is given to women for the many wonderful things they do and they are often under represented at the top levels of governance and management. That is why a day like this when we can focus on the positive ways that our wives,mothers , daughters and colleagues impact our lives and discuss ways to ensure that corporate organisations and the public sector reward their skills and hardwork appropriately is important.
Here at the NGX Group, we place great importance on inclusion and gender balance and that can be seen in the composition of our boards and conscious efforts to recruit more women and provide pathways for them to attain the highest levels. We also do a lot in the area of financial inclusion to empower women through financial literacy and entrepreneurship because we believe empowered women make empowered homes and a progressive nation and that is one of the fastest ways to grow wealth and the economy.
A lot is being done here at the Nigerian Exchange but there is still a lot to do and so I look forward to very productive discussions with my sister, the Honourable Minister of Arts, Culture , Tourism and the Creative Economy and the many accomplished women here today on the path forward to a society that embraces and recognises the many positives that women bring to the table.
