Court stops Wabara’s suspension by Abia PDP

An Abia State High Court sitting in Obehie, the Ukwa West Local Government Area, presided over by Justice L.T.C. Eruba, has stopped the enforcement of the suspension of a former Senate President and Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Peoples Democratic Party, Adolphus Wabara.

In the court order made available on Saturday, the court, in an order dated February 25, 2025, restrained the Abia PDP leadership led by Abraham Amah from enforcing the said suspension.

Wabara, in a suit marked HUK/8/2025, dragged Amah before the court, seeking an order to restrain the defendant from enforcing the suspension.

Granting the prayers of the claimant, the court ordered that, “The defendant is restrained from enforcing the suspension of the claimant/applicant from the Peoples Democratic Party or in any way affecting his position as the Chairman, Board of Trustees of the PDP till the motion on notice is determined.”

Recall that Amah, a former Vice Chairman of the PDP, Abia North, had a few weeks ago in Umuahia announced the suspension of Wabara, accusing the former Senate President of engaging in anti-party activities.

Amah cited a complimentary remark made by Wabara about Governor Alex Otti, in which Wabara stated that Otti had performed well and deserved another tenure, particularly for the reconstruction of the long-abandoned Port Harcourt Road in Aba in October 2023. The party in the state described this statement as an act of anti-party activity.

However, in a swift reaction, the National Working Committee of the PDP declared the suspension “null and void and of no effect,” stating that it was a violation of the party’s constitution.

As a result, individuals and pressure groups, including PDP Frontiers for Change and Progress, also condemned the Abia PDP and argued that Amah lacked the constitutional power to suspend a BoT Chairman of the party.
