The Acting Comptroller-General of the Nigerian Correctional Service, Sylvester Ndidi, has announced plans to develop an updated criminal database.

According to him, the initiative will ensure a comprehensive record of offenders and their respective offences, thereby enhancing the efficiency of the correctional system.

A statement issued on Friday by the Force spokesperson, Muyiwa Adejobi, noted that Ndidi disclosed this during a visit to the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun.

The statement read: “The Acting CG also elaborated on the NCS’s ongoing rehabilitation and reformation processes, which aim to transform correctional facilities into centres of rehabilitation rather than mere confinement.

“Additionally, he highlighted the NCS’s initiative to develop an updated criminal database to maintain a comprehensive record of offenders and their respective offences, thereby improving the efficiency of the correctional system.”

Adejobi added that the Inspector-General of Police pledged his commitment to working closely with the correctional service.

He said: “The IGP reinforced the shared vision of both agencies to enhance the overall effectiveness of the criminal justice system and pledged the commitment of the Force to collaborate closely with the NCS in achieving their common goals.

“The meeting focused on strengthening cooperation between the Nigeria Police Force and the NCS, with an emphasis on efficient crime prevention and bolstering the Nigerian criminal justice system.”
