The Kebbi State Police Command has arrested two suspects in connection with separate murder cases in the Shanga and Zuru Local Government Areas.

In a statement released on Friday, the command’s spokesperson, CSP Nafiu Abubakar, detailed the incidents.

He said on December 31, 2024, at about 8:00 PM, Yunusa Haruna, 25, of Bakin Turu village in Shanga LGA, was arrested for allegedly stabbing his elder brother, Isiyaku Haruna, to death.

According to police reports, the suspect used a sharp knife during an altercation with his brother. Officers from the Shanga Divisional Police Headquarters promptly responded, leading to Yunusa’s arrest.

In a separate incident on January 8, 2025, Abubakar Umar, 25, from Jarkasa in Zuru LGA, was arrested for allegedly stabbing Mohammed Bala in the head during a disagreement, resulting in his death. Umar is also accused of injuring Mohammed’s younger brother, Sama’ila Bala, during the altercation. The swift response of officers from the Zuru Divisional Police Headquarters ensured the suspect was apprehended shortly after the incident.

Reacting to the events, Commissioner Bello Sani expressed deep concern over the acts of violence and urged residents to seek peaceful means of resolving disputes. He emphasized the need for individuals to report grievances to appropriate authorities rather than resorting to self-help.

The Commissioner directed the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) to carry out a thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding both cases.

Upon the conclusion of the investigations, the suspects will face prosecution.
