AIG Orders Investigation into Alleged N2.3m Extortion in Abuja

The Assistant Inspector General of Police, Benneth Igweh, has ordered a thorough investigation into allegations of extortion involving officers of the Zone 7 Police Command in Abuja.

 

According to Harrison Gwamnishu, an X user with the handle #HarrisonBbi18, on Friday, the officers allegedly extorted N2.3 million from Nwosu Ndubuisi and forced him to sell his laptop at Banex Plaza in Abuja to pay for his bail.

In response to the tweet on Monday, the Police Command’s Public Relations Officer, Abdulkadir, confirmed that the Zone 7 Command had launched an investigation and promised to keep the public updated on the progress.

 

The statement said: “The attention of Zone 7 Police Command Headquarters, Abuja, has been drawn to news circulating on social media, particularly on X, by Harrison Gwamnishu, with the handle #HarrisonBbi18, claiming that officers from Zone 7 Headquarters allegedly extorted the sum of Two Million Three Hundred Thousand Naira (N2,300,000) from Mr. Nwosu Ndubuisi. He further alleged that the officers took him to Banex Plaza in Abuja to sell his laptop to secure his bail.

 

The Assistant Inspector General of Police in Charge of Zone 7 Headquarters, Abuja, AIG Benneth C. Igweh, psc, mni, has ordered a full investigation into this allegation, and the public will be updated on the progress accordingly.
