The Bayelsa State Government says it has recruited 1,500 teachers for primary and secondary schools across the state.

The governor who was represented by his Deputy, Senator Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo, made the disclosure at the weekend while responding to issues raised at the quarterly meeting of the Bayelsa Elders Council in Yenagoa.

On the issue of science and technology, Diri pointed out that his administration had done a lot with the construction of standard technical colleges in five out of the eight local government areas of the state.

The governor said contracts would soon be awarded for the building of additional three technical colleges in the three remaining local government areas.

Of the 1,500 teachers, he said about 400 of them would be assigned to the new technical colleges, 230 to primary schools while secondary schools would receive the largest share of 930 teachers.
