Preparations are in top gear for the 2024 maiden Tourism Retreat & Roundtable, which is being organized by the Tourism & Hospitality Committee of the Nigerian Bar Association’s Section on Business Law (NBA-SBL).
Recall that the Committee had earlier announced the dates of October 25 to 27, 2024 for the event, to be held in Abeokuta, the capital of Ogun State.
In a conversation with NEWSWIRE in the run-up to the Retreat and Roundtable, Chinenye Oragwu, Chairman of the NBA-SBL Travel, Tourism & Hospitality Committee, said the event (which is slated to take place at the city’s Green Legacy Hotel) will feature a combination of events ranging from scenic tours, highly-engaging discussions, and numerous networking opportunities between legal professionals, stakeholders and enthusiasts in the travel and tourism industry.
She disclosed that the Retreat and Roundtable will explore the theme: ‘Revitalizing the Travel, Tourism & Hospitality Industry: Innovation and Strategies for Sustainable Growth.’
This theme, she went on to say, is targeted at lawyers, travel, tourism and hospitality enthusiasts, practitioners, and industry stakeholders.
Oragwu also shared a breakdown of the event programme, showing that it will feature the following activities, among others:
– Train Ride: Attendees will enjoy a scenic train ride to and from Abeokuta, which she described as a great way to start and end the adventure.
– Roundtable Discussions: Attendees will engage in a series of thought-provoking conversations with industry leaders, captains, enthusiasts and stakeholders in the tourism and hospitality industry.
– *Tourist Activities* : Participants will have the opportunity to visit popular landmarks like the iconic Olumo Rock (the massive granite rock formation that commands stunning views of the Ogun State capital) and other tourist attractions. The choice of Abeokuta for this maiden Retreat couldn’t be more apt. Also known as the Rock City, it is famous for its tourist, historical and cultural sites, both in the form of natural endowments and man-made landmarks. Apart from the afore-mentioned Olumo Rock, other attractions include:
– The Palace of the Alake of Egbaland, which showcases traditional architecture and cultural heritage;
– The Abeokuta Central Mosque, with its impressive architecture;
– Oyan River Dam, a scenic spot for relaxation and recreation;
– Itoku Market; a bustling marketplace for local crafts, textiles, and souvenirs;
– Lisabi Forest Reserve, a lush and serene forest with diverse wildlife;
– The Ake Palace; a former residence of Lord Lugard (now a museum showcasing Nigeria’s colonial and post-colonial history);
– The Abeokuta Museum, which showcases the city’s history, culture, and art;
– The Hilltop Golf Course, a scenic golf course with beautiful views of the surrounding landscape; and
– The Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential Library, a museum and library dedicated to the former President of Nigeria.
– Socializing : There will be networking sessions, as well as a closing party to wrap up the event.
