Kingship Tussle In Aboh Kingdom, Ndokwa East Of Delta State

0

According to a statement issued by the Oduah Representatives and the Aboh Traditional Council, an incident occurred involving police officers led by Comrade Lucky Onyia, the DPO of Aboh, and others.

According to Mr. Chinedu Ugboaku Agha, Son of the Oduah who witnessed the incident, Charles Ogbuotobo aka Big Charlie led Dr. Greg Oputa, who is one of the Aspirants, High Chief Esumei Olisa (Ndanike), Prince Mike Oputa, High Chief Kenneth Odili (Ozaeh), his brother, Ikechukwu Odili, Chief Chuka Obi (Izomo), Chief Ifeanyi Boknor (Ojingu),

They allegedly forced their way into a room where the Oduah was lying down. The document identifies Chief Chuka Obi (Izomo) as having raised the Oduah from the bed at gunpoint and using his hand to “chalk” Dr. Greg Oputa, effectively attempting to bestow kingship upon him. This act has been described as an abominable violation of Aboh customs and traditions.

In response, the Oduah Representatives and the Aboh Traditional Council have vehemently distanced themselves from this act, condemning it as “shameful and abominable.” They reiterated that there is a process of selecting an Obi and it must strictly be followed, and any deviation is a direct affront to the kingdom’s heritage. The document called upon all indigenes of Aboh to remain calm, urging them not to succumb to provocations.

The statement also emphasized that those responsible for this “show of shame,” which has dragged the name of the ancient kingdom into ridicule, will face justice. The court orders are anticipated to address the matter and restore the integrity of the Aboh kingship process.

Community Reaction and the Role of Elders

The controversy has drawn mixed reactions within the Aboh Kingdom. While some community members expressed outrage over the police’s involvement and the alleged use of force, others called for a peaceful resolution that respects Aboh customs. The Okpala Ogbe and elders have reaffirmed their role as custodians of the kingdom’s traditions. They have stated unequivocally that no individual has been officially chalked as the new Oduah, rejecting any attempts at illegal installations.

In a show of solidarity, the statement from the kingdom’s representatives extended support to all quarters of Aboh, including the Ajieh Nwanyi (women of the kingdom) and the youth. By doing so, they emphasized the collective resolve to uphold the customs that have governed the kingdom for generations.

Legal Proceedings and the Path Forward

With the dispute escalating, court orders have been sought to address the kingship tussle. The uploaded court document implies that legal actions are in motion, which is a crucial step toward resolving this conflict. The Traditional Council of Aboh insists that due process must be followed, and only through adherence to tradition can the kingdom maintain its dignity and unity.

The Aboh Kingdom’s struggle reflects a broader tension between modern state interventions and traditional governance structures in Nigeria. Cases like these are not uncommon in Delta State and other regions, where the sanctity of kingship and the authority of traditional councils often come into conflict with external forces.

Long Live the Aboh Kingdom

The ongoing kingship tussle in Aboh Kingdom has indeed cast a shadow over its rich heritage. However, the resilience of the Aboh people and the unwavering stance of the Okpala Ogbe and the Traditional Council promise hope for a resolution that aligns with the customs of the land. In the face of what the Oduah Reps have termed an “abominable” act, the kingdom remains steadfast in its determination to see justice served.

The outcome of this kingship dispute will not only define the future of Aboh’s traditional leadership but may also set a precedent for other communities experiencing similar struggles in Nigeria. As the situation unfolds, all eyes remain on Aboh Kingdom, hoping that its ancient customs will guide the way to a peaceful resolution.
