Delta State Government has stopped payment of salaries of 120 health workers of the Delta State University Teaching Hospital, DELSUTH, Oghara who have exited the system and travelled out of the country.
The State Commissioner for Health, Dr. Joseph Onojaeme, disclosed this at his office when he received leaders of the Ijomi and Edjemouyan communities, Oghara, Ethiope West Local Government Area of the State.
He said the State Government had undertaken an audit of the hospital’s workforce after discovering that the government was still paying salaries of about 120 health workers who have exited the system.
Explaining efforts so far made by the State Government to properly reposition the hospital to meet with its mandate, he said Governor Sheriff Oborevwori approved the procurement of a CT scan machine for the Teaching Hospital at the last meeting of the State Executive Council.
Onojaeme said: “Other very critical measure that we took to ensure the hospital progressed was the clearing of the over the years outstanding power bill to the tune of N100m the hospital owed the Benin Electricity Development Company and the plan to increase the hospital’s monthly subvention” .
He commended the host communities for providing a conducive atmosphere for the hospital to thrive.
He assured the people of the Governor’s resolve to ensure that the dividend of democracy and campaign promises to the electorates were achieved, calling for cooperation and support from the communities.
Earlier while speaking on behalf of the host communities, the Councilor, Ward 12, Oghara, Mr. Eki Benson assured the State government that the communities would continue to ensure that a cordial relationship exists with the hospital.
