The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Abuja, Nyesom Wike, has vowed to remain in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) despite the party’s internal crisis.
He made the vow while speaking at a media parley on Wednesday, marking his first anniversary as a minister.
Wike firmly stated: “I don’t run away from any fight. I will stay and fight it out. Who am I going to run from? The vampires? I cannot do that!”
Wike’s comments come amid speculation that he may exit the PDP due to internal conflicts, particularly those targeting him.
However, he has consistently affirmed his commitment to his principles, even if it means standing alone.
When asked if he might leave the PDP, Wike responded, “Anyone who knows me knows if I wanted to join the APC, I would do it openly.
“I’ve never hidden my stance, and I won’t start now. Integrity is very important.”
Wike emphasised his commitment to principles, asserting that PDP won in Rivers State because he stood his ground.
“People must know you for something,” he concluded, dismissing his critics as being afraid of his influence.
Wike questioned how Wabara, as the BOT chairman of the PDP, could declare support for the Governor of Abia State,Dr. Alex Otti, of the Labour Party, claiming that Otti’s second term is secured, even though he hasn’t completed one year in office.
He said; “Wabara is the PDP BOT chairman, the Governor of his state, Dr. Alex Otti has not stayed one year when Wabara said his second term is guaranteed. This is the second term of another political party, he said he is the conscience of the party.
“You have taken a position and you are inviting Wike? To do what? To waste my time? Wabara is not in a position to lead.
“Do you know how he became the chairman of the PDP BOT? Ask him. In 2023, he led a team to visit me when the crisis in PDP was about the presidential candidate. Ask him where is the report? I say what kind of characters are these?
“That was the team he led. He said they were going to submit the report, even in the meeting he was telling me about the problem, that they will not budge and I said that the right thing must be done. Ask him about the report.
“The next day they made him acting chairman of the PDP to compensate him.”
This comes less than 24 hours after Chief Edwin Clark, a former Federal Commissioner for Information, called on PDP National Chairman, Iliya Damagun, to expel Wike from the party.
In an open letter, Clark accused Wike of using his influence with President Bola Tinubu to intimidate Rivers State governor, Siminalayi Fubara, and the PDP.
