Former presidential spokesperson of the Labour Party, Dr Doyin Okupe, has stated that his support for the former Senate president, Bukola Saraki, and the LP presidential candidate, Peter Obi, was not for his gain but for capable leaders to succeed in their endeavours.
Okupe revealed this in an open letter on Saturday, responding to a prominent chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party, Dele Momodu.
Momodu had penned an open letter to President Bola Tinubu on Thursday in which he urged the president to stop his “reckless propensity for wasting scarce resources” and “invest in vocational skills” for youths.
Taking to his X (formerly Twitter) handle, a former presidential aide, Reno Omokri, in a post titled, “Response To My Beloved Senior, Dele Momodu: Nigeria’s Economy Is Not Collapsing. Far From It!” countered the Ovation publisher’s letter to Tinubu.
In his response, Okupe commended Omokri’s response to Momodu’s article, describing it as a “masterpiece filled with unassailable facts and demonstrating a deep understanding of the issues at hand.”
According to the statement, “Okupe emphasised that his involvement in these administrations was focused on providing guidance and support to drive progress and development in the country.
“Okupe defended his associations with Bukola Saraki and Peter Obi, comparing them to Dele’s current association with Alhaji Atiku Abubakar. He noted that these relationships were built on shared values and a commitment to the betterment of Nigeria, rather than political expediency.
“Okupe emphasised that his support for these individuals was not driven by personal gain, but rather a desire to see capable leaders succeed in their endeavours.”
The statement added, “While acknowledging that these reforms have caused temporary hardships, Okupe believes that they are necessary steps toward achieving long-term economic growth and stability. He praised the government’s efforts to mitigate the effects of these reforms and urged continued diligence in addressing the concerns of Nigerians.”
