Bill To Add 5 Years For NASS Staff Retirement Age Scales Through Senate

The proposed legislation, titled “A Bill for an Act to Amend the Retirement Age of National Assembly Service Staff and Other Related Matters, 2024,” is on the verge of becoming law. If enacted, it would raise the retirement age for National Assembly Service staff from 60 to 65 years and extend the service requirement from 35 to 40 years.

Last week, the Senate temporarily set aside the bill for additional consultations, but Senate Leader Senator Opeyemi Bamidele has now assured that necessary discussions have taken place, making the bill ready for approval.

This development follows earlier concerns among National Assembly staff regarding the potential extension of the current Clerk, Sani Magaji Tambawal’s tenure, and the anticipation that over 200 staff slated for retirement in November may see their tenures prolonged by five years.
