Governor Hyacinth Alia of Benue state has dedicated the affirmation of his victory by the Supreme Court to the people of Benue state. The Supreme Court had Monday dismissed the petition by the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, and its governorship candidate in the last election, Titus Uba for lack of merit.

Reacting to the verdict in a statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Tersoo Kula, the Governor congratulated the people of the state over the victory stressing that the mandate of the masses which was overwhelmingly given to him would only be used for the good and welfare of the people.

Governor Alia who hailed the judiciary for the verdict said “they have proven once more that they are truly the last hope of the common man. I dedicate this victory to the ordinary Benue person on the street, farmers, teachers, market women, pensioners, IDPs, youths, and civil servants.”

He assured that he would continue to prioritize their needs and interests over those of people who do not mean well for the state. He also called on the people to continue to support the government of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to provide dividends of democracy to the Nigerian people.

The Governor reiterated his resolve to remain focused until the fortunes of the state were turned around for good and to ensure that Benue realized its potential and take its pride of place in the comity of developed states in Nigeria.

Reacting, the PDP in Benue State said it accepted the verdict in good faith.

The party in a statement by its Publicity Secretary, Bemgba Iortyom said it “recognizes the authority of the courts to interpret the laws made for the good government of Nigeria, and accepts the decision of the Supreme Court on the matter in good faith

The party appreciates its Leader in the state, immediate past Governor, Chief Samuel Ortom, for his unwavering support to the litigation process conclusively pursued, and as well commends other leaders and its executive organs at various levels for their loyalty and commitment.

PDP equally lauds the resolute focus and determination exhibited by the governorship candidate, Engr. Titus Uba, and his running mate, Sir John Ngbede while the tenuous litigation process lasted.“Our great party also hails the resilience and steadfastness of its members in the state, and urges them to continue to keep the faith as it provides credible opposition for the good governance of the state.”
