The Chairman of the South-South United Action for Democracy and the Rivers State Civil Society Organisations, Enefaa Georgwill, alongside a political analyst and Chancellor of the International Society for Social Justice and Human Rights, Dr Omenazu Jackson, have faulted the involvement of President Bola Tinubu in settling the dispute allegedly between the Governor of Rivers State, Siminalyi Fubura and the Minister of Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike.

This followed a report by The PUNCH, on December 19, 2023, where a meeting was held at the Aso Rock Villa, Abuja, between Tinubu, Fubara, his deputy, Mrs Ngozi Odu; a former governor of the State, Peter Odili and the immediate past governor now Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Wike, and other stakeholders.

According to an eight-point resolution signed at the end of the meeting, on December 18, 2023, the President directed that all lawsuits instituted in the courts by Fubara and his team regarding the political crisis in Rivers State be withdrawn immediately.

Georgwill stated that the president does not have the authority to intervene in a matter in court.

He said, “The president has no power to adjudicate over a matter that is still in court. It is only a court that can reverse a case by itself at the Court of Appeal or the Supreme Court. I have not seen a president go ahead and adjudicate over a matter that is already in court. The president cannot decide except we are going back to the time of military dictatorship.”
