The Nigerian Bar Association, Lagos Branch (NBA Lagos) has requested the Lagos State Judicial Service Commission for an extension of time to provide feedback on candidates shortlisted for appointment as High Court Judges in the state.
In a letter dated December 18th, the Chairman of NBA Lagos, Olabisi Makanjuola, acknowledged receipt of a letter from the Commission on December 14th seeking NBA’s comments on the shortlisted candidates
However, Makanjuola noted that there is a “dearth of comprehensive information” on the candidates under consideration. Given the importance of the appointments, He requested the Commission to provide more time as well as the curriculum vitae and other available information on the shortlisted candidates
According to the letter, such information is crucial to enable the Bar conduct a thorough review and provide an informed opinion on the suitability of the candidates. The info will also be shared among NBA Lagos members to facilitate a collective feedback process.
Makanjuola thanked the Commission for its understanding and prompt attention to the request, noting that its assistance in enabling a rigorous vetting process is greatly appreciated
The next steps remain unclear as NBA Lagos awaits the response from the Judicial Service Commission.
