The Ondo State Government has denied any involvement in the suspension of about 100 magistrates in the state.
Some magistrates were suspended last week by the Ondo State Judicial Commission following alleged irregularities in their appointments.
The Ondo State Commissioner for Information, Yemi Olowolabi, said, “It is a judiciary matter. The governor has no hand in it. 91 people were affected but 25 of them have been cleared. The commission did not sack 200 magistrates.”
Speaking on the issue, the Chairman of the Akure chapter of the Nigerian Bar Association, Tunji Oso, said the commission could sack the magistrates but must follow laid-down procedure as regards their terms of employment.
“We have gone to the relevant authorities on their matter and we have been told that their case is not concluded yet. They remain suspended until their appointments are regularised,” Oso stated.
The NBA chairman stated further that the exercise was meant to sanitise the judiciary in the state.
