24-year-old father beats daughter to death in Calabar

One Mr Joseph Emmanuel, aged 24, of No. 3 Esit Ebom Street, Calabar has beaten his 10 year old daughter to death.

The deceased child, according to reports, allegedly misplaced the father’s petrol pipe which he often used to transfer fuel into his commercial motorcycle.

The incident which Wednesday, almost had neighbors attacking the young man out of anger.

Reports said neighbour were about to lynch him when one Okon Edwin of No. 5 Ekeng Ewa Street, Calabar South quickly alerted the Police.

Upon receipt of the report, police operatives mobilized to the scene and rescued the suspect from the mob action.

According to the police PRO, Sunday Akata, the suspect was found with visible injuries inflicted by the youths and was subsequently taken into custody.

Akata confirmed that the suspect has confessed to the act, saying he killed his daughter out of provocation.

The suspect was later taken to the University of Calabar Teaching Hospital (UNICAL) for medical attention while the deceased child was examined and body deposited at the same hospital’s mortuary for preservation and autopsy.

Akata said investigation into the incident has commenced and suspect may be charged to court soon pending the outcome of investigation.
