Understanding Nigeria’s Game of Thrones – By Douglas Ogbankwa Esq
“Man is living a false lifestyle in a wrong Society, a Society where moroons are barons, a Society where thieves are chief, a Society where monkey dey work, baboon dey chop”
-Dr. K.O. Mbadiwe.
Nigerian First Republic States Man.
So it is in Nigeria’s Game of Thrones, that if you want to be an Activist be an Activist and if you want to be a power monger, be a power monger, as there is nothing like an Activist in Power.
Ask the recently deposed Emir of Kano, Mohammed Sanusi ll.
You can not be bigger than the System that made you!
You will be lucky if you were just dethroned, sacked or imprisoned.
The penalty for being treacherous to the Nigerian Ruling Class when you are part of them is more dire.
The truth is that in Nigeria, there comes a time when there is a Unity of all tribes, all political affiliations and all religions among the Ruling Class. That is when the Ruling Class wants to protect itself against other adversaries. They only talk about our differences and divide us when they quarrel about the sharing formula of the National Cake and “National Moi Moi”.
In the real, there are just two competing Units in Nigeria: The Ruling Class and the Masses. If you can not beat them, join them, but when you join them be careful, because you are viewed with suspicion. You have to watch your rear view, when driving on the Highway.
The Nigerian Political System reeks of corruption, half truths, manipulation and out right decimation of our Commonwealth.
For you to cope in the System, you must be a liar, a snitch, a betrayal, a sycophant or a court jester and one who compromises Standards.
In the Nigerian Political System, only the strong survives, only the wise excels, only the lonely dies slowly.
Before you execute a reform, be informed of the System and if they called you to Order, conform, else you will end up being deformed.
The real casualties of power are the Masses who are the victims of the intrigues and machinations.
Understand the Country you live in, else you will be a pun in the complex game of chess called power.
Some times, the so called “Activists” are pretenders who ride on the crest of public support and sympathy to get to power and when they get there, some times they are worse than those they criticised, while they were “Activists”.
Read the 48 Laws of Power by Robert Greene, it contains some recipes that can cook a Nigerian Political Cuisine.
But when you participate in politics, follow and learn from history as John Jensen said: “History is past politics and politics is present history”.
And Mark Twain the American Writer posited thus: “History does not repeat itself, at best, it rhymes”.
In the Nigerian Political Milieu you hardly find States Men, those you find are mostly Politicians. The difference you will find in immortal words of an American Thinker, James Freeman Clarke, when he said :
“A politician thinks of the next election; a statement of the next generation. A politician looks for the success of his party; a statesman for that of his country. The statesman wishes to steer, while the politician is satisfied to drift. ”
Nigeria is presently a Nation in distress of character than of form .
“I will Stand for what is right ,even If I stood alone ”
-Chief Gani Fawehimin SAN of blessed memory.
