Umahi wants EFCC, ICPC’s Operations Reviewed

The Ebonyi State Governor, David Umahi, has urged the Federal Government to review the operations of its anti-graft agencies – the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission and the Independent Corrupt Practices and other related offences Commission – with the view to helping them to achieve optimal performance in their operations.

Umahi said this in Abakaliki, the state capital, on Saturday at a media interaction organised by the state government as part of activities to mark the 2018 Democracy Day in the state.

The governor reiterated that the fight against corruption should have no political colouration, adding that “somebody should not wear a clothe under the banner of a political party and is prosecuted, and now that he is wearing the clothe of another political party he suddenly becomes a saint.”

He frowned on the spate of petitions filed against his administration to both the ICPC and the EFCC by some members of the opposition parties in the state.

The governor called on the Federal Government to stop its anti-graft agencies from being used as a tool for political intimidation, noting that “barely six months after assumption of office, nine ministries in the state were subjected to investigations by the anti-graft agencies.”

“Despite the outcome of the investigations, the EFCC continued to beam its searchlight on my administration, the way they are writing all kinds of petitions against my administration to the EFCC is annoying,” Umahi added.
