Two-day Conference on Protecting Oil, Gas Installations Bank Rolled by Delta Govt.


The Delta State Government, has organized a two days conference, to proffer solution that is targeted towards ending crude oil theft, illegal oil bunkering and pipeline vandalism.

The program was coordinated by the Delta State Advocacy committee against vandalism of oil and gas facilities and headed by the Deputy Governor, Delta State, Barr. Kingsley Otuaro who represented the Executive Governor, Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa in Ogulagha Town, Burutu Local Government Area of Delta State.

The Delta State advocacy committee against vandalism of Oil and Gas facilities that was set up in the first quarter of 2016, kick started the sensitisation programme with the theme; “Sustaining Peace, Building Potentials and Surveillance of Oil and Gas Assets through Community Engagement”.

In a speech from Governor Okowa, represented by his deputy, Barr. Kingsley Otuaro, he said “Militancy in the Niger Delta, specifically Delta State, assumed sophistication which requires critical stakeholders to remodel their community engagement and practice.

Other members of the committee who graced the occasion included Mr. Mofe Pira, Commissioner for Youth Development, Hon. Asupa Forteta, Special Adviser on  Petroleum Matters, Barr. Bosin Ebikeme, Chairman Delta Waterways Security, Hon. Boro Pudu and Member representing Burutu Federal Constituency,  Hon. Julius Pondi.

The conference was also attended by Captains of industries and a host of dignitaries who witnessed the keynote address presented by the Nigeria Managing Director of Shell Petroleum Development Company, Mr. Osage Okunbor and presentation by resource person, Professor Flora Tebolayefa Oluwafemi.

The program ended with a town hall meeting for youth from oil producing communities in the state, who expressed displeasure over non employment of their graduates by oil companies operating in the region.

Traditional rulers represented by their chiefs at the event, urged the federal government and international oil companies to fully implement local content laws and channel more developmental projects to the oil producing communities.
