Supreme Court Declares Diri as the Appropriate Governor of Bayelsa State
The six appeals filed against the newly elected Governor of Bayelsa state, Douye Diri and his Deputy Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo was dissolved by the seven- member-panel of apex court led by Justice Sylvester Ngwuta who gave a concordant judgement.
Justice Ngwuta foretold the repudiation of the appeals on the termination of the six appeals by lawyers of the appellant.
It was affirmed that the appeals dismissed were filed by the Alliance for Democracy, Advanced Nigeria Democratic Party (ANDP), Labour Movement (LM) and Accord Party (AD).
During the Bayelsa Governorship elections last year, David Lyon emerged the winner while Douye Diri took second position .
Diri was later declared the elected governor of the state in an ensuing Supreme Court judgment disqualifying of the All Progressives Congress’s candidate David Lyon.
Diri’s triumph has been disputed countless times but the Bayelsa State Governorship Election Petition Tribunal sitting in Abuja had at different times also proclaimed him as the suitable elected governor of the state.
Diri was inaugurated on the 14 of February, a day after Lyon and deputy were fire.
