My Score Card as Publicity Secretary of the Lion Bar – Douglas Ogbankwa

Good Day Distinguished Silks , Elders of the Bar , Leaders of the bar and Distinguished Colleagues at the Bar .

My Name is Douglas Ogbankwa Esq., the current Publicity Secretary of the Nigerian Bar Association Benin Branch-the Lion Bar .

I indicate the following as my achievements as the Publicity Secretary of the NBA Benin Branch since June ,2019,when I was sworn in .

1.With the support of my Chairman and all other Exco Members , increased the NBA Benin WhatsApp Groups from 1 to 6,to accommodate all Members of the Benin Bar .

2.Commenced the posting of names of Members whose stamp has come from NBA National in the NBA Benin WhatsApp Platforms ,the first of its kind in the history of the NBA Benin Branch .

3.Commenced the posting of Supreme Court ,Court of Appeal ,Benin and Federal High Court Cause Lists in NBA Benin WhatsApp Platforms ,the first of its kind

4.Commenced the Posting of the names and phone numbers of all Registrars of the Edo
State Judiciary, Federal High Court Benin ,Court of Appeal Benin and the Supreme Court of Nigeria in the NBA Benin. WhatsApp Platforms,the first of its kind .

5.Provided prompt information whether any court is Sitting or not .

6.Provided prompt information on the activities of the Bar and updated same timeously as changes occurred.

7.Put the NBA Benin Bar on the front pages of 11 National Newspapers and Prime Time News Segments in 4 National TV Stations and all the Local TV Stations in Edo State when they Bar was confronting the incessant kidnap of its Members which helped stopped the menance .

8.Projected a positive Image of the Benin Bar to the General Public and publicizing same with vast reach to the world, for which the Benin Bar is now rated the 2nd best in Nigeria, having highlighted the achievements of our current chairman -Prince Collins Ogiegbaen.

9.Responded immediately to any Security related issue concerning any Member of the Bar once brought to my Notice whether it involves the Police ,The DSS,FRSC,EDSTMA,EFCC even the Nigeria Army and resolves same timeously .

10.Put the activities of the NBA Benin Branch virtually in all National Law Blogs and Platforms .

11. Publicized with incessant savour all Marriages ,Burial Ceremonies and other Social Activities of Members of the Benin Bar and galvanized Members to attend same .

12.I have played a part in all valedictory services of all our departed Members of the Bar .

13.Been an interface between the Bar and the Judiciary ,with the Chairman and other Exco Members and pushing the Agenda of the Benin Bar and its Members from time to time .

14.Provides any information required by Members related to our job and Practice within minutes .

15.Have a Channel of communication between the Lion Bar and all the security Agencies in the State .
16 .Given the Lion Bar Extensive online visibility that has attracted the interest of National and International Media like the British Broadcasting Corporation .

17.With Chairman -Prince Collins Ogiegbaen and Secretary and other Exco Members successfully organized two Table Tennis Tournament for the Lion Bar and played novelty table tennis matches with the Judiciary where we beat the Judiciary.

18.Provided online copies of the Programme of Events for the 2019 Law Week ,real time and posted same on the NBA Benin WhatsApp Platform and all National Platforms relating to Law .

19.Provided a template for all lectures for the 2019 NBA Benin Law Week to be sent to the Email of Members before the commencement of same .

20.Represented the NBA Benin in Committees and Workshops and pushed the Agenda of the Bar ,which include the Committee for the Amendment of the The Edo State Criminal Code ,the IOM NBA Meeting to provide a legal hub to curb illegal migration, stakeholders meeting the Edo State Plea Bargain Manual .

I have been an advocate against illegal detentions and cruel treatment by security agencies ,been an advocate of the VAPP Law particularly as it concerns the setting up of the Anti Domestic Violence and Sexual Offences Response Team .

This is just some achievements,there many more in the kitty .

I have attended numerous Conferences at the Local and National Level and I have served the Benin Bar in various capacities meritoriously with out any blemish.
My aspiration to be Secretary of the Lion Bar is borne out of passion and nothing more .
