Prof. Odinkalu Endorses Okey Ilofulunwa for Vice-Chairmanship Position of NBA Lagos Branch
The former Chairman of Nigeria’s National Human Rights Commission and currently the senior team manager for the Africa Program of Open Society Justice Initiative, Prof. Chidi Odinkalu has endorsed Mr. Okey Ilofulunwa as the best man for the office of the Vice- Chairman of the NBA Lagos Branch and has agreed to work with him.
In his conversation with Okey Ilofulunwa, he said, I express my support for your campaign and my intention solicit for vote for you in the upcoming elections and spread the good value of your policies and abilities.
The Vice Chairman of NBA Lagos by the Bye-Laws heads the Human Rights Committee.
Prof. Chidi Odinkalu who is hoping for Okey’s success said, I am ready to work with him and the Human Rights Committee to strengthening the rule of law at the Lagos Bar and in particular to promote adherence to international human rights law.
Mr. Okey Ilofulunwa if elected:
- Intends to bridge the gap between lawyers and law enforcement agents in justice delivery to clients by making the Human Rights Committee to be more responsive to the needs of members of the Branch and the society;
- Promises to create a Corporate Social Responsibility framework to encourage law firms to sponsor the work of the Human Rights Committee. This will ensure that hardworking committee members are paid stipends for the work to encourage them to do more;
- monitor cases where lawyers are prevented from performing all of their professional functions through intimidation, hindrance, harassment or improper interference, or suffer or are threatened with prosecution or other sanctions as a result of their work.
