Petition Against the Injustice, Disenfranchisement, Lack of Fair Hearing and Intimidation Against Nwokike Livinus Ifeatu, Esq. Over the Election of Aguata Bar Branch Held on 30th June, 2018.
The above subject matter refers please. Permit me to complain to you that I was disenfranchised to contest the position of Chairman in our bar branch despite the fact that I was screened, cleared and my name published as one of the qualified contestants to the above position which took place today being 30th day of June, 2018 at our bar centre.
Sir, a guideline for the above election was published and I picked the nomination form officially to contest for the position of Secretary which I filled and submitted. This election based on the said guideline was suppose to take place on 7thJuly, 2 018, but was brought down to 30th June, 2018 being today. When I saw that some people who called themselves cabals in our bar led by R.O. Ezenwosu who plotted some persons to contest with me on my earlier interest. Later I found an opportunity in chairmanship position and I went to the chairman of the electoral committee who told me that I can still withdraw the earlier form, make-up my payment and proceed with the changes as the period for submission of nomination forms was extended. These I did, was screened by the electoral committee headed by one Obiora Okeke, Esq., was cleared and my name published along with other contestants.
Unfortunately, today being the day for the said election, my name also appeared as one of the contestants for the position of the Chairman of NBA, Aguata branch but was not allowed to contest and be voted for by the conspirators in our bar branch called cabal because their leader, R.O. Ezenwosu threatened me severally over the phone calls at dying minute to step down for my opponent, but that I refused. Before now, Sir, nobody has indicated interest to contest for position of Vice Chairman, Assistant Secretary, Treasurer, and Publicity Secretary, but they were given forms for these positions inside the venue of the election today. These people were neither screened, cleared nor their names published by electoral committee. When the election started proper my name was conspicuously posted on the notice board inside the venue of the election and yet I was not allowed to be voted for, despite the presence of many of my supporters. When I complained to the electoral committee chairman, he refused to hear me out. Again, when there was a stalemate, instead of using the opinion votes to resolve the impasse, the chairman ignored my objection and went ahead to return my opponent unopposed to my surprise and that of my many supporters; stating that I did not submit my application for chairman on time. More annoying was that those who purchased the nomination forms inside the venue of the said election today were allowed to contest the election without any hitch. What an injustice?
Sir, since I was not disqualified before now, why today when the election was to be conducted despite the elongation of time for the submission of the form, but, to my greatest surprise those who purchased the nomination forms were allowed to contest, voted for and were sworn in. What a disenfranchisement and lack of fair hearing?
As a law abiding aspirant and someone who believes in the internal mechanism of settling disputes, I believe that complaining to the appropriate authorities of NBA family should be the first option, hence, this petition.
Sir, I urge you to take look into this compliant, cancel the purported election and order for a free and fair election in Aguata bar branch before breakdown of law and order occurs.
