OLUMIDE AKPATA CELEBRATES INTERNATIONAL WOMEN’S DAY, RE-AFFIRMS THE NEED TO MAKE THE BAR WORK FOR ALL.
Senior Partner at Templars and immediate past Chairman of the NBA Section on Business Law, Olumide Akpata has extended felictations to women everywhere on the occasion of International Women’s Day 2020. He particularly celebrated female lawyers, whom he described as a great asset to the Nigerian Bar. He iterated that the legal profession needs every person – female and male – at their fullest potential, and that the Nigerian Bar must therefore be made to work for all.
In a statement he made this morning, he said “Today is International Women’s Day, and I celebrate women all around the world, especially my learned colleagues and aspirants to the Bar. It is no secret that women are a great asset to the profession. So many women have reached the pinnacle of the profession via the Bar or the Bench, through academics or as in-house legal counsel, but there is still room for improvement.”
He further affirmed that the larger society needs gender balance and urged everyone, beyond the legal profession, to continue to advocate for women inclusion and to ensure women always have their place at the table.
He said “The contribution of women to our profession and the society at large is invaluable. Now more than ever it is clear that we, as a society, need their contributions and that a woman’s right to be treated as equal for all purposes is non-negotiable. We must continue to advocate, both individually and collectively, for our Women in Law and, indeed, all other vocations to increasingly occupy their rightful place.”
