NBA’s Section on Legal Practice Holds One Day Conference on Role of Litigation in Nigeria’s Electoral Process in Port Harcourt
Elections are coming up in 2019. On the 3rd of December 2018 the Section on Legal Practice (SLP) of the Nigerian Bar Association storms Port Harcourt with a one-day conference put together by its committee on Democratic Process and Electoral Litigation. The one day conference which is themed “The Role of Litigation in the 2019 Nigeria Electoral Process” will have three sessions.
The President of the Court of Appeal, Hon . Justice Z. A. Bulkachuwa, CFR has graciously accepted to Chair the conference while the Key note address will be delivered by His Excellency the Governor of Rivers State; Chief Nyesom Wike, CON.
The show case session will be on “INEC , Judicial interventions and the cumulonimbus of Nigerian’s Elections: Bringing 2019 under the radar. This session will be moderated by the President of the Nigerian Bar Association; Paul Usoro, SAN with the following eminent disscusants; (a.) Chairman of INEC; Mahmood Yakubu, (b.)Governor of Sokoto State; Aminu Waziri Tambuwal, (c.) Governor of Ondo State; Oluwarotimi O. Akeredolu SAN, (d.) Attorney General of the Federation; Abubakar Malami SAN and (e.) E. C Ukala SAN.”
The second session will be chaired by the Hon. O. C. J Okocha SAN on the “Burden of proof in election petitions: Need for reforms. The lead paper will be presented by Mallam Yusuf Ali SAN and will have the following discussants; (a.) Hon. Justice Peter Afen, (b.) Chief Charles Edosomwan SAN and (c.) Kehinde Ogunwumiju SAN.”
Speakers and discussants at the third session who will look at “The key issues and challenges of election petition tribunals in Nigeria” will be D. C Denwigwe SAN; Dr. Onyeshi Ikpeazu, SAN, Chief Mrs. Victoria Awomolo SAN and Oluwole Osaze Uzzi.
Persons who attended the SLP April conference and the Breakfast meeting for in-house counsel held in Lagos in October, know that apart from gaining knowledge SLP promises to deliver a conference of international standard with a tea break, lunch, quality conference bags and other conference materials.
