As part of the activities to commence the 2017 Annual General conference of the NBA, the Nigerian Stock Exchange, NSE, welcomed a delegation of the Nigerian Bar Association executive committee and the 2017 NBA AGC Technical Committee on Conference Planning led by the President of the Nigerian Bar Association, Abubakar Balarabe Mahmoud,SAN.
IMG-20170818-WA000Mahmoud, SAN, who doubles as 2nd Vice President of the Nigerian Stock Exchange rang the bell to bring proceedings at the NSE to a  close today Thursday, August 17, 2017.

The Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian Stock Exchange, Oscar Onyema, said the NSE will do everything in their capacity to see that success is achieved at the forthcoming conference.

Speaking with Newswire Editor in-chief, Gloria Ireka, Esq., the NSE President said that every event has its own challenges. But for the 2017 NBA AGC, the Nigerian Stock Exchange will make sure Nigeria make an impact for Africa’s benefit.

He reiterated that  the NSE will continue to transform the Nigerian capital market in accordance with global practice.

Mr. Onyema said, “NSE’s partnership with the NBA will expose the stock market to robust corporate governance and enhance efficiency and transparency associated with publicly quoted companies.”

Immediately after closing the stock for the day, the NBA President, who spoke during a live interview on CNBC Africa on DSTV, shared his thoughts and opinion on the biggest obstacle on the country’s path towards achieving strong institution that would last for decades.

In his words, “There is a very weak tradition and much of the focus of the past has always being on strong individuals, and the NBA has consistently idled that the country will develop, its business will grow on the bases of strong institutions.” “The design of this conference is made in such a way as to draw attention to the depths of strong institutions on the continent and Nigeria in particular and to move away from the culture of strong personalities and make sure that we focus on culture of very strong institutions instead. And we thought that this will be the beginning of the conversation that would endure and would see us towards an era of stronger institutions”.

Other members of the delegation include the Chairman of the Technical Committee on Conference Planning, TCCP, Professor Konyinsola Ajayi, SAN, Vice Chairman of TCCP, Dr. Garba Tetengi, SAN, Chief of Staff to NBA President and Secretary of TCCP, Murtala  Abdulrasheed, NBA General Secretary, Isiaka Olagunju, NBA Welfare Secretary, Adesina Adegbite and a number of national officers.
