Kaduna DisCo Deploys Meter Monitor for Large Customers
Kaduna Electric says it has launched the Automated Meter Reading (ARM) device to monitor activities and guard against tampering with meters installed for its large power customers.

The Distribution Company (DisCo) in a statement, said the software is deployed to track energy consumption activities of Maximum Demand (MD) customers who are the large power users in the power sector.
The Head Information and Communication Technology of the DisCo, Mr Yasir Abdussalam, said, “The business has haemorrhaged from constant energy theft which has led to great loss of revenue.
“The ARM is designed to address issues of energy theft arising from looping, meter/ feeder bypass or any illegal activity. Once this happens we will be notified in the head office,” he said.
There have been several complaints by the DisCos of their customers bypassing the installed meters and have reported charging some to court.
However, customers have complained of huge estimated bills for electricity not consumed. The Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) had compelled the 11 DisCos to install MD meters for all their power users, comprising commercial and industrial customers in 2017.
Mr. Abdussalam, who spoke of the benefit of the technology, said the ARM will help the company forecast a customer’s energy consumption and has the ability to keep record of what is consumed.
