The judge, Mr. Yakubu Ishaku, ordered the remand of the defendant in Keffi Prisons, after she pleaded guilty to a count charge of causing grievous hurt and begged for forgiveness.

The complainant’s counsel, Mr. D.O. Egba, told the court that his client, Janet Ogaji and her daughter were admitted at the Keffi Medical Centre, stressing that they were in bad condition, due to the degree of injuries sustained.

“My lord, for the court to believe what I just said, these are their pictures which they took in the hospital, with these pictures; you can see the damage the defendant had done to them.”

“Look at the body of this young man present in court, his own is little compared to that of my client and her daughter who are lying helplessly in the hospital,” Egba said. Based on the defendant’s admitting committing the offence, the judge adjourned the case until Jan. 22 for sentencing.

“This is to enable us ascertain the total amount the victims had spent so far and what they are still going to spend in the course of their treatment,” Ishaku said.

Earlier, the prosecutor, Mr. Frank Swem, told the court that Ogaji of Riverside Masaka in Nasarawa State, lodged the complaint against the defendant.

Swem said that on Jan. 12 at about 8:30 p.m., the complainant went to resolve a dispute between her son, Gabriel and his wife Deborah, when the incident occurred.

Swem said in the process of settling the dispute, the defendant suddenly came with a pot of hot water and poured on her, as a result she sustained serious injuries all over her body.

The prosecutor added that one Victoria Ogaji, Stephen Okpe and Friday John, also sustained injuries from the spread of the hot water.

The offence contravened provisions of Section 243 of the Penal Code.
