Gloria Egeonu: Answering the Call to Action
My name is Gloria Egeonu,
I am a member of the Lagos Branch of the Nigerian Bar Association, also known as Nigeria’s Premier Bar Branch, and I am running for the office of the Social Secretary of the Branch in the forthcoming 2019 elections.
I had my early education at the Girls Technical School, Umuaka in Imo State, from where I proceeded to the University of Lagos where I obtained a Bachelor of Laws (LL.B) degree, after which I was called to the Nigerian Bar in 2008, following my mandatory law training at the Nigerian Law School, Enugu Campus, Enugu State.
After my National Youth Service, I had a working stint with Adefusika Ade Ojo & Co. before taking the bold step of establishing my own law firm, Egeonu Gloria & Co., in 2014. I presently serve as the Principal Partner of the firm and I have been in active legal practice till date.
I am a member of the Surulere Lawyers’ Forum where I served as Chairman of the 2018 Dinner Committee. It is on record that, during my stewardship on that committee, my team achieved the unprecedented feat of organizing a memorable, world-class dinner for ALL lawyers in Lagos, absolutely free of charge.
I am also a dedicated member of the NBA Lagos Branch,which I am currently serving as a member of the 2019 Annual Law Week.
Vote for me, Egeonu Gloria, to become the next Social Secretary of the Premier Branch, for an exciting, pleasurable and dynamic social life in the Lagos Branch of the NBA.
My Agenda
I intend to implement a proactive, progressive and result-oriented agenda, capable of moving the Lagos Bar to a new dimension of growth, impact and influence in the affairs and fortunes of its teeming members, in the likely event that I emerge as the Social Secretary of the Lagos NBA.
Here are the things I intend to achieve during my stewardship as Social Secretary:
- I will encourage Branch members to play active roles in the various sub-committees of the Executive Council so as to create greater impact in the fortunes of the Branch.
- I will ensure active participation of members in all NBA Lagos Branch activities
- In addition to our normal staple of activities and events, I will also organize the following: monthly or bi-monthly aerobic sessions and periodic picnics proudly supported by our sponsors.
- I will organize events tailored to the particular needs of the various categories of members of the Bar branch i.e. the young , the old, married people, singles, etc.
- Prior to each event or meeting, I will do rigorous due diligence as far as location management is concerned to ensure that venues used for meetings and all other events are conducive for such gatherings.
- I will ensure that all members of our Branch get full value for their money from every NBA-organized event, whether at Branch or national level.
- I will work assiduously to create cordial relationships, partnerships and multi-level synergies among lawyers.
- Talking of synergies, I will work closely with my colleagues on the Branch Executive Council, as well as Branch members, to ensure that our events are better-organized – and to promote them accordingly.
- I will work to create a system in where deserving members of the Bar are rewarded for their service to the Bar.
- I will ensure that our flagship event, the Lagos NBA Annual Law Dinner, is planned and executed smoothly; and
- I will strive to ensure that our members go on periodic tours to interesting locations as a way of broadening their horizons as befits their status as members of the noble profession.
All the items in the above list are do-able, because they are well within our power, as long as we agree to work together to actualize them. I strongly believe that I, Gloria Egeonu, am the right person to lead this effort, given my experience, pedigree and love for the Lagos Bar Branch.
Voting for me in this momentous election is the only option for all those who wish to see our Branch go on a higher and higher trajectory of progress, prosperity, and a social life that befits its status as Nigeria’s – nay, Africa’s – Premier Bar Branch.
