An Evening with George Etomi
George Etomi started his legal career in one of the premier commercial law firms in Nigeria; Chris Ogunbanjo & Co under the mentorship of Chief Ogunbanjo. Etomi is the Principal Partner of the law firm ‘George Etomi & Partners’, which he established in1984, and was invited to serve as the first Chairman when the NBA Section on Business Law (SBL) was created.
During his 40 years of active practice, he has gathered a wealth of experience in diverse areas of law cutting across various commercial transactions in the fields of Energy and Natural Resources Law, Aviation Law, Building and Construction Law, Banking and finance Law, Arbitration, Telecommunications, Legislative Drafting and Competition Law Policy.
He (Etomi) is a Special Adviser to the International Trade in Legal Services Committee of the Bar Issues Commission of the IBA; Vice Chairman, National Advisory Council of Designated Non-Financial Institutions, and Fellow of the Nigerian Institute of Advanced Legal Studies, which named a Research Centre after him: ‘The George Etomi Centre for Strategic Investment and Corporate Governance’.
Mr. George Etomi, a mentor to young legal practitioners is a regular facilitator at global business conferences. He will play host to young lawyers on Thursday 17th of May, 2018, at his office; The Seminar Room, George Etomi & Partners, 1, Tiyamiyu Belo-Osagie Street, Parkview, Ikoyi – Lagos, at 4pm.
In addition to his managerial role as the founder of GEPLAW, Etomi is currently a Director with Eko Electricity Distribution PLC in Lagos.
George Etomi is a published author of several articles and newspaper publications including his book titled, ‘An Introduction to Commercial Law in Nigeria’, where he brings to bear his over 40years’ experience in commercial law practice in Nigeria.
In a conversation with the Chairman of CLE & Mentorship Committee of the NBA Lagos Branch, Mr. Tobenna Erojikwe, said, audience participation is comprised of young lawyers of between 1 – 7 years post call. Also the “First Early 30 applicants would occupy the limited space for the evening,” he said.
