If you can Trek for Days in Desert to Libya, you have the Wherewithal to Survive in Nig – Fr. Kingsley Idaewor
Fr. Kingsley Idaewor on Sunday cautioned Nigerian youths against travelling illegally to other countries, noting that since they (youths) could trek in the desert for days under the scorching sun with no shoes and swim through Mediterranean sea to Libya and other countries, they have the wherewithal to survive in Nigeria.
“It’s right to say that Nigerian government has not given us the best services we need, best economy, best education and good democratic administration.”
“It is also right to say that Nigerian government is corrupt and has never reached out to us individually to know our problems and fix it.
“But it is also right to note that we are impatience, thus too anxious to go even before God. Let’s be patience and move with God. Spiritual waiting is equally a virtue; youths should adopt and practice it.”
“Since youths can trek without food, water, no shoes and live supplements under the scorching sun for days, weeks, months and swim through the Mediterranean sea to Libya and other countries, they have the wherewithal to survive in Nigeria”, he said.
Fr. Idaewor made the call in his homily at the Catholic church of Visitation, 1st Avenue, Festac town, Lagos.
While celebrating the first advent mass ‘the Catholic Church New Year calendar’, Fr. Idaewor who was flanked by the parish priest of the parish, Fr. Panachy Ogbede, likened patience to one of the greatest spiritual gift from God to mankind.
In his words, “Abraham waited for the lord for so long and gave birth to Isaac before he was made the father of the whole universe. David ‘the man after Gods own heart’ was made king after waiting and hiding for many years from King Saul who wanted to have him killed.”
“Joseph the dreamer waited and passed through persecution before he achieved greatness. Our lord Jesus Christ equally waited for over 30 years before he died for us in the cross of Calvary and that was while he told his apostles after his resurrection to go to Jerusalem and ‘wait’ for the coming of the Holy Spirit.”
“We should always be patience in whatever we do and acknowledge God’s own time which is different from human time.”
“The patience we are talking about includes, inward waiting, onward waiting, outward waiting and upward waiting. The above four waiting can be described as the stubbornness of a man’s spirit that one day the promises made by God in his life would be fulfilled. That one day his sufferings and persecutions would be a history and testimony”, he said.
Speaking further Fr. Idaewor tagged the current Libya slavery as barbaric and warned youths who still want to travel to withdraw, noting that it would be better to stay were one would be acknowledge as a citizen, honored and respected.
With pin-point accuracy he emphasized the need for family accommodation, unity and love as he spoke against domestic slavery.
According to him, “We are talking about Libya slavery whereas in our various homes we enslave and turn our maids into modern slaves. Why can’t they eat from the same plate we eat with our children, he quizzed. Why can’t they dress like our children? Why are they easily noticed in a family as maids? Why do we find it hard to accommodate them as our own body and flesh?
If we cannot amend our bad ways and harsh treatments on our maids we do not have the right to question the Libyan slavery”, he finally said.
In his reaction to the conduct, behavior, rules and diocesan regulations for priests and parishioners, the parish priest, Fr. Panachy Ogbede opined that “Human beings are blessed with knowledge and ability to differentiate good from bad, we are human so let’s do good and avoid bad attitudes like siphoning church money or using ones name in the name of the church to make money for oneself.”
