Asaba Welcomes Delegates to NBA Conference on Criminal Justice Reform
Auspiciously located along the banks of the mighty River Niger, Asaba, the capital of Nigeria’s Delta State, enjoys the distinction of being at the intersection between the various geo-political zones of the country, which over the years has given the city a distinctly cosmopolitan flavor. Sitting right across the river from Onitsha – the commercial hub of eastern Nigeria – to which it is linked by the majestic Niger Bridge, Asaba has long been of strategic importance to various stakeholders across the country and beyond.

The latest group of important stakeholders to demonstrate their recognition of the Delta State capital’s importance are the nation’s legal community, under the auspices of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), which is holding its Summit Conference on Criminal Law Reform at the prestigious Asaba Conference Centre from Tuesday, April 24 to Thursday, April 26, 2018.
To underscore the importance of this gathering, delegates from the various branches of the association from across the country began trooping into Asaba in the early hours of Tuesday. NEWSWIRE Magazine’s correspondent reporting from the Conference venue reports that registration began shortly before noon at the venue as delegates began the countdown to the Welcome Cocktail later in the evening.
If the assurances of the Conference organizers – notably the chief host, Chief Arthur Obi Okafor, SAN – and the large turnout of early arrivals, are anything to go by, Asaba 2018 promises to be a memorable gathering indeed, and the decisions and conclusions that will emerge at the end of the lawyers’ deliberations are set to bring about a sea-change in the administration of criminal justice in Nigeria for generations to come.
