Al-Makura warns Tertiary Institutions’ Boards to return Looted Funds
Nasarawa state Governor Umaru Tanko Al-makura has charged those who stole funds meant for the development of government institutions to get ready to return them.
Al-makura gave the order when the investigative committee set up to look into the activities of higher institutions in the state from 2014 to last year presented its report to at the Government House, Lafia, yesterday.
The report accused the governing board and management of the institution for diverting funds for their personal use.
Chairman of the committee on Nasarawa State Polytechnic, Hajiya Fatty Sabo, while presenting the report to the governor, revealled that huge funds belonging to the institution were mismanaged.
“From our investigation, which was in line with the terms of reference, discovered that grants, TETFUND projects and internally generated revenues were carelessly expended and diverted to private pockets by the management and governing board of the institution,” said Sabo.
Al-makura, while commending the effort of the committee, said he was downcast with the report, which he described as the first of its kind, in terms of objectivity and honesty in giving fair hearing to persons indicted.
