Emperor Ogbonna, Esq. Continuous Detention by The DSS and Abia State Government in Spite of his Released on Bail by The Federal High Court is The Height of Impunity – Sabastine Anyia, Esq.
It’s shocking that after the Federal High court ordered the release of Emperor Ogbonna Esq.on bail, the DSS has denied him his freedom by refusing him his right to go home.
The day he was granted bail, the DSS blocked the entrance to the court premises, fought with the prisons’ officers, over power them and ceased him by force to their office in yet another episode of flagrant right abuse and an attempt to frustrate a legitimate order of court by an institution of state.
We raised alarm when this happened, all institutions including NBA national body, but surprisingly till date they have not released him.
It’s indeed worrisome that this show of shame has continued in our own very eyes and we seem to be helpless. If they can do this with one of us and go away with it, I wonder what will happened if it’s a common person in the street that is involved.
I cannot see any justification for the continued detention of our colleague for these number of months even after a court of law had pronounced otherwise.
I therefore suggest respectfully that our dear president Paul Usoro SAN should set up a
strong delegation to visit Abia state Government with a view to resolving this issue once and for all.
This is so because the government is simply displaying raw might and we need to use diplomacy to save our colleague.
In an association such as ours, when one of us is in trouble we must all be concern and do everything within lawful means and within our power to save the person.
Today it’s Emperor Ogbonna, tomorrow may be you or me. I said this because in my place we have a saying that goes like this:
If you are a farmer, and a bush pig is eating your yam tubers and destroying your yam barn yet your neighbors that share common boundaries with you are not disturbed because according to them, it’s not their farm or yam barn, they should not worry. When the bush pig finish eating the neighbor’s yam and destroying his yam barn it will come to your own farm.
I guess my message is clear. I urge our president to act now. The bar must speak out.
