Mid-West Bar Forum Chairman and Executive Committee Members Declare Illegal and in Gross Violation of The Forum’s Constitution, The Purported Notice of Meeting of The Forum Being Circulated Online and to be Hosted by Warri Branch of The N.B.A. at Warri

The attention of the Chairman and Executive Committee Members of the Mid-West Bar Forum have been drawn to an online publication said to be authored by Chief T.J.O. Okpoko, SAN, giving a Notice of Meeting of the Mid-West Bar Forum to be hosted by the N.B.A. Warri Branch at Warri on Saturday,  21st March,  2020.

The Executive Committee of the Forum have met in an emergency meeting and in consultation with the N.B.A. Branch Chairmen and taken the following decisions to protect the Mid-West Bar Forum from this unfortunate plan to  have a Kangaroo Meeting with only 1 out of the 14  Branch Chairmen of the Forum acting as host, without the knowledge and consent of his own Branch Executive Committee Members who have immediately refuted the said illegal Notice of Meeting:

1. The Chairman of the Executive Committee/Chairman of the Elders Council, Chike Onyemenam, SAN, with the Members of the Executive Committee of the Mid-West Bar Forum in conjunction with the Chairmen and Executive Committee Members of the N.B.A. Branches of Edo and Delta States that make up the Mid-West Bar Forum hereby declare as illegal and in violation of Sections 8(1), (2), (3), (6), (8), (9) and Section 9(b) of the Mid-West Bar Forum Constitution, the above planned Meeting of the Forum which is being summoned without the knowledge  and consent of the Mid-West Bar Forum Chairman and Executive Committee Members, with a view to appointing a parallel Executive Committee of the Forum without the mandate of the Members of the Forum.
2. By the above provisions of the Forum’s Constitution,  it is the Chairman of the Forum who is the Chairman of both the Executive Committee and the Elders Council that has the power and legal right to convene a   Quarterly or Emergency Meeting of the Forum and no other!
3. The purported Notice of Meeting published by a single member of the Forum and describing another single member of  the Forum, Chris Obamogie,  Esq. as Chairman of a non-existent Mid-West Bar Forum Caretaker Committee is in gross violation of Sections 12(3) and (4) of the Forum’s Constitution which provides that all individual Members of the Forum and all N.B.A. Branches within the Forum shall be bound by the decisions and resolutions of the Forum and that any Member Branch or Individual who violates same or acts in violation of the Constitution of the Forum shall be sanctioned and in addition,  be blacklisted by the Forum!
4. The Chairmen of the N.B.A. Branches of the Mid-West Bar Forum,  together with their Executive Committee Members and the Members of the General Assembly which is the highest organ of the Forum hereby reaffirm their earlier publication passing a vote of absolute confidence in the Chike Onyemenam,  SAN, led  Executive Committee of the Mid-West Bar Forum and ratify as valid,  the unanimous election of the said Executive Committee at the Forum’s Meeting held at Agbor, Delta State, conducted by the Electoral  Committee set up by the Forum at the behest of Chief Okpoko, SAN.
5. Consequently,  the Chairman and Executive Committee Members of the Forum in conjunction with the N.B.A. Branch Chairmen and Branch Executives,  hereby direct all distinguished Members of the Mid-West Bar Forum to discountenance the above illegal Notice of Meeting and not to attend same, so as to preserve the unity of the Forum and avoid running foul of the Forum’s Constitution!
