Early Bird Registration: SBL ‘GIE Challenge’ would Support Young Lawyers Participation at Business Law Conference
As we countdown to the forthcoming NBA’s Section on Business Law 2019 Business Law Conference, the Chairman of the Conference Planning Committee, Dr. Adeoye Adefule said, the expectation for this year’s conference is very high, and more opportunities would be given to young lawyers. In an interview with Newswire Law & Events on issues of the early bird registration, he said more young lawyers must be allowed participation at the 2019 conference.
Adefulu said, “It is important for young lawyers to engage very gladly on those things that matter to our businesses and also understanding those things that matter to the company that you’re supporting.
“Law is not a practice in itself, it’s about helping people. And for Business Law, it is about helping business lawyers and helping businesses thrive.
Dr. Adeoye Adefulu in his conversation with Newswire said support programmes like this is not new to lawyers because it’s a yearly tradition to encourage the young ones.
The CPC Chair said, “First, we have discounted rate for young lawyers to attend the conference, particularly for those who are able to catch the early bird registration. Early bird registration is from now through to the 26th of April. If you catch the early bird registration you will get really good rates. And in particular if you are a member of SBL.
“Again, membership of SBL is really inexpensive and in particular it’s not expensive for young lawyers. That’s the first area. Second area is we do give scholarship for people to attend the SBL conference.

“We give that scholarship to number of lawyers across the country. Traditionally we’d ask lawyers to write in and say why they want to attend the SBL conference. But this year we are doing something slightly different. We are doing something called the ‘GIE Challenge’. GIE is really the short form of this year’s conference theme which ‘Growth, Investment and Employment’. So, the GIE Challenge asks the young lawyers – from 7 years and younger, to shoot a short video which is posted online, which talks in less than 2 minutes of what Growth, Investment and Employment means to them. Among them, we would select sponsored lawyers from that pool of the videos that we received. The video that is adjudged the best video of that challenge will actually have a speaker slot on one of the panels for the conference.

This year’s conference will take place at the Eko Hotel and Suites Victoria Island, Lagos from Wednesday June 26th to Friday June 28th, 2019.
The theme of this year’s conference is Growth, Investment & Employment: Beyond Rhetoric.
As the theme suggests, this conference will focus on practical and pragmatic solutions to achieving inclusive economic growth, maintaining, attracting and retaining investment and increasing employment options for the youth within the Nigerian Economy.
There will be convening a host of esteemed speakers both international and domestic who will discuss key topics within our theme such as the role of the private sector, moving Nigeria from an oil exporting economy to value additions, creating an enabling business environment and so many other topics with the aim of broadening our perspectives as lawyers.
There will also be a line up of social events, including dinners and concerts with several special guest artistes.
