Stakeholders Pledges Support for Demand of NBA Oyigbo Branch
The demand for lawyers at Oyigbo, to have their NBA branch is getting louder as political and community leaders in Oyigbo Judicial Division of Rivers State, now add impetus to the demand.
At the Dinner & Reunion get-together, held by the Oyigbo Lawyers’ Forum on Wednesday 19th of December, 2018, lawyers, political stakeholders and community leaders in the area were fully mobilised and sensitized on the need for a branch of the Nigerian Bar Association in the area.
Speaking at the event, the Chairman of Lawyers’ Forum Oyigbo, Ugoo Uzoho said that her members travel 35km to Port Harcourt City or 25Km to a neighbouring Abia State to attend or harvest NBA benefits – a situation that has foisted grave inconvenience, expenditure, and risk on her members.
“Other judicial divisions in Rivers State have since had their own NBA Branches created for them.”
“He queried why a cosmopolitan environment like Oyigbo with a high population density and very large number of lawyers should be without a branch of the NBA.”
Speaking further at the occasion, the Executive Chairman of Oyigbo Local Government Area, Hon. Gerald Oforji promised to do everything to assist the Oyigbo Lawyers’ Forum converted to an NBA Branch.
He matched his words with action by making a heavy financial donation to the body.
The paramount ruler of Iriebe Community, His Royal Highness, Eze Jeremiah Nworenwu, who was present at the occasion also lent his voice to the clamor. He donated to the course.
With the large turnout of lawyers at the occasion, one is left in no doubt that Lawyers Forum Oyigbo is set to become Nigerian Bar Association Oyigbo Branch.
