NBA Benin Branch Holds its Dinner in Grand Style
It was pomp and Ceremony at the prestigious Esteem Event Centre in Benin City, where the Nigeria Bar Association, Benin Branch held its Annual Dinner, tagged “The N.B.A. Benin Black and White Dinner”, on Friday December 14th, 2018.
The Dinner commenced with a Pre-Dinner Cock tail at 3pm. Members and their spouses as well as invited guests used the opportunity to share pleasantries and banters .
The Dinner Proper commenced ,in a well decorated hall , depicting the theme of the Day ,in florid black and white paraphernalia.
The arrival of the Chief Judge of Edo State, My Lord, the Honourable Justice Esohe Frances Ikpomwen (FCJEI), heralded the commencement of the Dinner.
The Event kick stated with an opening Prayer and there was constant and regulated flow of lavish African and Continental dishes and exotic drinks. In between there were some speech making and recognition of dignitaries.
The Chairman of the N.B.A. Benin Branch ,Prince Collins Benson Ogiegbaen in his welcome Address thanked Members for coming and observed that holding the Dinner was keeping with the tradition of the Bar.
The Honourable, the Chief Judge of Edo State, My Lord, the Honourable Justice E F. Ikpomwen (FCJEI), in her well researched Dinner Speech used the opportunity to remind members of the Bar of their duty to do Justice, at all times, as their Loyalty is to the upholding of the Law and not their Clients.
The Dinner Lecture ,which was quite thought provoking ,was delivered by Kingsley Jesuorobo Esq.,a Nigerian Lawyer in diaspora, who is the President of Nigerian Lawyers Association in Canada.
The event climaxed with the conferment of Awards ,on deserving Members of the Bar and Friends of the Bar .
Among those conferred with Awards were: The Chief Judge, Hon. Justice, E.F. Ikpomwen (FCJEI), the number 2 Judge in Edo State Judiciary, Hon. Justice Ada Ehigiamusoe, Ken E. Mozia, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria, who is a former Chairman of the Branch, the Commissioner of Police, Edo State, Mr. Johnson Babatunde Kokumo, whom the Chairman of the Bar, Prince Ogiegbaen, commended for his fight against Humanity Rights Abuses and Abuse of Office in the Edo State Police Command, including his attending to issues at late hours of the night when ever called upon by the Bar .Also awarded were, Hon. Osarodion Ogie Esq., the Secretary to Edo State Government, whom the Chairman of the Bar commended for his constant generosity to the Benin Bar, The A.I.G. Zone 5 Headquarters of the Nigerian Police, AIG Usman Alkali, which award was received on his behalf by his wife Hajia Alkali, a Member of the Bar.
Others were Senator Mathew Uroghide, the Senator Representing Edo South, at the Senate ,Honourable Patrick Obahiagbon a former Member Of the House of Representatives, Hon. Omoregie Ogbeide Ihama, Member of the House of Representatives, Mrs. Rosemary Osula Otu (Rosula), a Business Mogul, Captain Wells Osa Okunbor, another Business mogul, Dele Edokpayi Esq., Mrs Marie Edeko, immediate Past FIDA EDO chairperson, Two judiciary staff, who have distinguished themselves in their duties, Mr. Cooper Isibor, a Bailiff and Miss Adomi Genevieve, of the Cash Room, were also honoured for their meritorious service!
Also honoured was the Nigerian Petroleum Development Company (NPDC), though unrepresented.
The Dinner came to a high point ,with the offering of toasts to the different components of State, the Bar and the Bench.
The Chairman of the Dinner Organising Committee, Jefferson Uwoghiren Esq., gave his votes of thanks and Members of the Benin Bar took to the dance floor thereafter, churning out, one delectable dance step to another indicative of the fact that Lawyers still have the capacity to have a lot of fun.
Other Edo State High Court Judges who attended the Event ,apart from those indicated above, were -Hon. Justice Esther Amenaghawon Edigin, Hon. Justice Joe Itsebaga Acha, Hon. Justice Helen Adesuwa Courage Ogbebor, Hon. Justice Ohimai Ovbiageli, Hon. Justice A. I. Omotoso and Hon. Justice Agbona Terry Momodu among other dignitaries.
