Dogara’s Defection: Plot to Polarise House Uncovered
A plot to polarise the House of Representatives, especially the All Progressives Congress (APC) caucus, has been uncovered.
In this light, the recent crisis in which various allegations were flying around might be part of a greater strategy to prevent the APC caucus in the House from speaking with one voice after the planned defection of the Speaker, Yakubu Dogara.
There was confusion in the House of Representatives over allegations of plans to impeach Speaker Dogara by the leader of the House, Femi Gbajabiamila.
Investigation has shown that the allegation, which came from the former Chairman, House Committee on Appropriation, Abdulmumin Jibrin, might have been contrived.
Jibrin is the arrowhead of the Parliamentary Support Group (PSG) in the House.
However, some members have expressed surprised at the allegations, saying there is also need to investigate the activities of the PSG in the House.
They recalled the threat of the group and the utterances Jibrin made in a statement for which he was referred to the House Committee on Ethics and Privileges.
The statement reads: “We wish to categorically state that the ongoing taking of signatures of members in the House of Representatives by the PSG is not for the purpose of impeaching the Speaker, but to reaffirm our support to Mr. President and consolidate his support base in the House.”
“We will soon know the real enemies of our country and democracy. Those that have become dictators playing god, suppressing, suffocating, threatening and treating colleagues like slaves, using a democratic institution for selfish reasons and as instrument of blackmail.”
