Arthur Obi Okafor, SAN Consults Lawyers in Borno State, Visits IDP Camp


The Chairman of Criminal Justice Reform Committee of the Nigerian Bar Associaion, Chief Arthur Obi Okafor SAN was in Borno state over the week to attend the Law Week of the Maiduguri and Biu branches of the association and also consult lawyers in the state.

Chief Okafor who arrived to a rousing welcome at the Maiduguri Airport was received by the Chairmen of Maiduguri and Biu branches, Baba Kura Kaka Esq and Dr. Habiba Y. Gana alongside leaders of the bar in the state who came in convoy of cars, incuding two NBA buses filled with lawyers from both branches and the Chairman of Bauchi branch, Maidoki Esq and his Secretary ; was driven to the venue of the Bar and Bench Forum at the Bornu State High Court where he took part in the meeting.

As part of the activities for the Bar Week, he played a novelty table tennis game with Kaka Sheu Lawan, the Honourable Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice of Bornu state to declare the Table Tennis Competition for lawyers of both branches open.

He jointly presented an award with the Chief Judge of Bornu State, the Hon. Justice Kashim Jannah to the Deputy Governor of Bornu state, Alhaji Usman Mamman Durkwa, who was represented by the state’s Attorney General at the Bar Dinner of NBA, Maiduguri and Biu branches and also held a breakfast meeting with the Young Lawyers Forum of both branches.

Before departing Maiduguri, in a display of his love for humanity, especially the down trodden and vulnerable, the learned silk, accompanied by members of his team and leadership of the Bar in the state, including, Bukar Alhaji Waziri, a former National Officer of the association and past Chairman of Biu branch, Kaka Esq, Dr. Gana, a National Officer of Muslim Lawyers Association of Nigeria (MULAN), Alhaji Tijani Sanda and other members of both branches visited the internally displaced persons ( IDP )Bakasi camp along Damboa road, Maiduguri where he donated learning materials to elated pupils of the school.
