8,500 Criminals Arrested in six years – Bayelsa Security Outfit
A security outfit established by the Bayelsa State Government, Operation Doo Akpo, says its operatives have arrested at least 8,500 suspects in the last six years.

The Special Adviser to the Governor on Security Matters, Chief Boma Spero-Jack, said the suspects were arrested for various criminal offences.
Spero-Jack, who spoke at the inter-ministerial/agency briefing in Yenagoa on Thursday, said the feat was achieved in collaboration with the Bayelsa State Police Command.
He said that the government had concluded arrangements to procure additional gun boats to further check the activities of pirates on the state’s waterways.
Spero-Jack said that patrol boats were acquired in 2012 and the outfit had since received 39,000 distress calls as well as 109 appreciation calls.
While describing the Bayelsa Integrated Security Strategy as a critical aspect of Doo Akpo, Spero-Jack noted that it had been able to reduce its response time to about six minutes within the Yenagoa metropolis.
He also attributed the successes achieved over the years to the security surveillance equipment put in place at the command and the State Security Control Centre. He said it was the first of its kind in the country.
Also speaking, a security consultant to the governor, Mr. Fola Amao, highlighted efforts of the state government at implementing its anti-crime policies.
He said the implementation had earned the state a security award by the Security Watch Africa as the most effective crime bursting squad, which Bayelsa has again been nominated for in 2018.
The House Committee Chairman on Security, Bernard Kenbai, representing Sagbama Constituency 2 in the State Assembly, commended Governor Seriake Dickson for ensuring that Bayelsa remained one of the safest states in the country.
