2019 NBA AGC: Law, Technology & Social Welfare Our Main Focus – Usoro, SAN
The 59th Annual General Conference of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) would bring the issues around legal practice and justice delivery in the 21st century, as well as the impact of disruptive new technologies and innovations, and the promotion of social welfare among Nigerians, to the front burner of national discourse.

This assurance was given by the national President of the NBA, Paul Usoro, SAN, at an interview on the sidelines of a press briefing by the association’s Conference Planning Committee to mark the official countdown to the event, to be held at the Eko Hotel and Suites on Victoria Island, Lagos, Nigeria from August 23 to August 29, 2019.
While issues of overt political significance would also be examined during the event, Usoro maintained, they would NOT form the nucleus of the discourse. In line with the theme of the Conference, ‘Facing the Future,’he said, the event would aim to position the legal profession to take full advantage of the changes taking place in the world today – as they affect the profile and fortunes of the legal profession in the country and beyond.

Going forward, Usoro added, the Conference would also inform the NBA’s stance and engagements with other stakeholders (especially the government) on issues that affect the welfare of the people, and in particular the security of lives and properties, in view of recent threats and uncertainty in the country today.
The NBA helmsman expressed joy at Nigeria’s accession to the African Continental Free Trade Agreement (AfCFTA), saying a new vista of opportunity has been opened for Nigerian lawyers and law firms to scale up their services in response to the legal implications of intra-African trade and other related commercial and non-tangible transactions.
