African Women Lawyers Association (AWLA) Rivers State Branch, Nigeria, Marks one Year Anniversary
The African Women Lawyers Association ( AWLA) Nigeria, Rivers State branch has marked her one year of impactful existence under the leadership of her amiable coordinator Mrs. Cordelia Eke.
This epoch making event took place on the 27th of October 2017 at the NBA Port Harcourt Branch House, 1, Bank Road, Port Harcourt, Rivers State with the theme: “Women and Child Rights Advocacy-repositioning for greater impact”.
The event commenced at 9am with a training session for members on social welfare, volunteering and mediation, the session had a Director in the Ministry of Social Welfare, Alozie Echeonwu Esq., Secretary ICMC Rivers State, Mr. Abayomi Akinwole Esq., Mr. Sunny Ikeagwu, a seasoned mediator in the Ministry of Justice, River State, amongst others.
The training session culminated into the main event, with Mr. Paul Usoro SAN as chairman, wife of the Rivers State governor, Hon. Justice Eberechi Suzzette Nyesom Wike, ably represented by the commissioner of women Affair, Mrs. Ukel Oyagiri and Iyom Josephine Anenih as the keynote speaker.
The keynote speaker who not only said she likes to gossip about herself but actually did held most women responsible for the abuse of other women’s right. She gave example with her marriage where she came in as a second wife and thereafter realized she abused the right of the first wife to be happy and at peace, consequent upon which as she walked in she walked out of the marriage.
One of the highlights of the event was presentation of AWLA champions-male lawyers who support AWLA.
The one year anniversary of AWLA showcased documentary of her activities in one year of her existence and clips (project layout) for the AWLA shelter project. The project is going to be a safe home for abused girls and women. Amongst donations to support the project was N1,000,000.00 (One Million Naira Only) from the chairman of the event Paul Usoro, SAN.
The AWLA champions wouldn’t let’s AWLANS go without an after party organized in their favour.
The thanksgiving service is billed to hold on Sunday 29th of October 2017 at Crystal Vine Community Church, 39, Ndele Street, off Khana Street, D/line Port Harcourt at 10am prompt.
