One of the highlights of the 2022 Annual Conference of the Nigerian Bar Association’s Section on Legal Practice (NBA-SLP) slated for the Dome, along Nnebisi Road in Asaba, the Delta State capital from Sunday, July 3 to Tuesday, July 6, 2022, will be the Young Lawyers Debate, as wigs with practice experience ranging from between 0 and 7 years post-call to Bar, will trade intellectual brickbats as they argue for or against a topic to announced at the Conference.
The Debate, which is the second of its kind (hence its tag, Season 2) has an array of mouth-watering prizes ranging from N500, 000 for the eventual winner, to N350, 000 and N250, 000 for the second and third place finishers respectively.
The rules of the Debate are as follows:
- Interested participants are required to send an essay on the following topic: ‘THE ETHICAL RESPONSIBILITIES OF A 21ST CENTURY LAWYER ACCORDING TO THE RULES OF PROFESSIONAL CONDUCT – A NECESSARY DUTY OR UTOPIAN BOTTLENECK to nbaslpylc@gmail.com on or before Sunday, June 12, 2022.
- The said essay should be between 700 and 900 words in length, in font size 12, in Times New Roman, double spaced, with footnotes in OSCOLA referencing. The essay should contain a cover page with the lawyer’s full name, NBA Branch, year of call, telephone number and email address.
- Participants must be registered members of the NBA-SLP who plan to attend the Conference in Asaba in person. Registration as a member of the NBA-SLP can be done via www.portal.nba-slp.org.
- The best 6 essay submissions will be selected to compete against Home Team (comprising 2 young lawyers) at the Finals in Asaba.
