The theme of this year’s ESQ Legal Awards – a glittering annual extravaganza that celebrates excellence in the various practice areas of the legal profession in Nigeria – is ‘Celebrating the Important Contribution of Nigerian Lawyers to Businesses.’ By that token, therefore, the awardees were more than deserving of the accolades they were presented with on the night of Sunday, November 7, 2021 at the prestigious Landmark Event Center in Oniru, Lagos.
Quite deserving of this award was Yakubu C. Maikyau, SAN, FCIArb (UK), principal partner at the Abuja-based law firm of YC Maikyau and Co., who, according to NEWSWIRE Law and Events Magazine’s correspondent in Lagos, was presented with the Legal Icon of the Year plaque, to the admiration of the teeming guests.
Maikyau, SAN, who currently serves as the Chairman of the NBA’s Welfare Committee, is a graduate of Law from the Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, and the Nigerian Law School. He was admitted as Barrister and Solicitor of the Supreme Court of Nigeria in December of 1990, after which he commenced his career with the law firm of Danladi Bamaiyi and Company, where he rose to become the Head of Chambers. He left the services of the firm on the 6th of August, 2003 to launch the firm of Y. C Maikyau and Company, with offices in Abuja and Sokoto, Nigeria.
Maikyau, SAN, is a courtroom genius, a quintessential Bar man and a philanthropist. Under his leadership, the Welfare Committee of the NBA has unveiled life-touching schemes including Law Pavilion deals and Medical Insurance schemes under the current administration in the NBA.
