At the ongoing NBA Lagos Branch, Premier Bar Football League, the ladies turned the gear in excitement as they took to the field in a novelty match.
The novelty match was played between the New Guards (ladies who joined the Branch female team from 2024) and Old Guards (ladies who had played for the Branch from inception of the female team till 2023).
The match featured amongst other players, players like Doyin Aina (2nd captain of the Branch team), Sandra Imade (MVP of the Inaugural Premier Bar League), Nofiisat Ajibola (Golden Glove winner Inaugural Premier Bar League ), and Sekinat Abubakre (highest goalscorer at the inaugural edition).
In the thrilling encounter, the New Guard triumphed over the Old Guard 2-0. Goals from Fateemah Yahaya and Sekinat Abubakre secured the win. The Old Guard defence, marshaalled by Team Captain Constance Awoegbe and Aderonke Ilesanmi, was solid, but the New Guard attack proved too strong at the end of the day.
The game was hugely entertaining as it kept the fans on their feet throughout.
The female tournament of the Premier Bar League will kick off in January 2026.
Registration of teams for the female league will close in the 2nd week in January 2026 with the cash price expected to exceed that of the last edition.
