Ubani acknowledges developmental efforts of Akpabio and Wike in administering their States.

Dr Monday Ubani, Chairman of NBA Spidel while responding to questions from Channels Tv presenters of Sunrise over financial autonomy which the various States’ Houses of Assembly rejected, acknowledged the efforts of His Excellency, Godswill Akpabio former governor of Akwa Ibom and His Excellency Nyesom Wike the current Governor of Rivers State for carrying out massive infrastructural development at their various local governments in their States.
He remarked that these two gentlemen and few others he did not mention were men who gave considerable thought to empowering the environment(like construction of roads, electrification of the villages and streets, health centres etc) which is far better than distribution of wheelbarrows, motor cycles and the likes that politicians use in their empowerment schemes of the youths.
The consequence of these infrastructural developments he noted is that those who have migrated to urban areas from those States are returning back to their states when they notice these massive infrastructural developments in their domain.
The concomitant economic activities that these developments generate incentivize quick return to their local governments to eke out a living since most of them have nothing they are doing in the urban centres.
Dr Ubani and Mr Uwemedimo Nwoko SAN who were guests on Channel TV Sunrise had a slight disagreement on whether what Nigeria operates presently is 3-tier or 2- tier government. While Dr Ubani argued that the constitution had by its provision made room for 3-tier government, Mr Nwoko SAN argued to the contrary that what presently operates is a 2-tier government. Mr Nwoko was not happy with the Federal Government interference in the local government administration in Nigeria, while Mr Ubani was of the firm view that the manner of interference of the governors’ may have prompted their interference especially over the funds they allocate monthly to the local government.
Dr Ubani in his concluding remarks pushed for a local government administration that is manned independently both financially and administratively if we desire to experience development at that tier. He pleaded with States that are yet to make known their stand over the autonomy to consider the intetest of the suffering Nigerians and vote for autonomy to the local government.
