THE NIGERIA POLICE AND ABDUCTION TACTICS: Men of Special Tactical Squad are the new SARS by Bayo Akinlade Esq

The Nigeria Police continues to use criminal methods to arrest citizens, to extort money from them and to silence them.

Nigeria has become so unsafe and without law and order that the Nigeria Police uses these situations to maltreat citizens.

The efforts of the Lagos State Judiciary and Judiciaries across the nation under the law requiring magistrates to visit police stations has brought to light many of the atrocities of the Nigerian Police.

One case worth mentioning is what a magistrate experienced in Ijede Area N Command where 3 suspects were brought to the station on Monday by police from the Special Tactical Squad in Abuja. These suspects have been taken from state to state under an allegation of robbery, no remand orders, no warrants, no order of courts etc.

How can the Nigeria Police arrest suspects and just keep them in custody without any court orders… Is this not KIDNAPPING?

SEE BELOW THE STORY OF THE WIFE OF ONE OF THE SUSPECTS

“I traveled on Wednesday 2nd of march, for a special programs of my church, only to return home on Saturday 5th march, midnight and discovered my husband was not at home, I had called him earlier that Saturday but his phone number was saying switch off, at first I thought it was the phone network but it’ll soon dawn on me when I got home to face it… what could have happened, nobody can tell. My daughter who joined me at the camp late evening on same Saturday said she had called him in the morning to know if he’s at home that very Saturday because she wanted to drop some items at home before coming to church from where she stayed during the week because of her work, but his response was that he had left home to keep an appointment.

We called throughout Sunday but to no avail…no one can give details about him among all the relatives, later his phone numbers were ringing but no response, atimes is switched off, we kept calling but no response until Monday last week, he flash his our daughter’s phone and she immediately return then he told her he’s in Abuja with Special capital squad, demanding for #50k because they want to bring him to Lagos the following Wednesday… and they sent an account details that we are to paid the money…
    GT BANK:0528274724. BABATUNDE OLUMIDE TOSIN
☝️ the account details we are to pay the money… It was later discovered that the account details is of a pos operator, though we send #20k but couldn’t get through to him again until this afternoon you called my daughter.”

The Magistrate at Ijede during her monthly visitation to police station discovered this case just today 30th March.

The Magistrates instructed the Duty Solicitors Network volunteer accompanying her to document the suspects and contact their families and that’s how we got the testimony of the wife of one of the suspects.

    We ask these questions

    1. What division of the police is STS… is this another SARS?
    2. What procedure in the law or the police Act allows the police to arrest suspects and take them from state to state?
    3. What procedure allows the police to arrest people and not grant them access to their families and lawyers

We ask these and many other questions….can our police be trusted?
